Introducing the Short-Form Fire Door Risk Assessment

Not every fire door visit needs a full risk assessment. Sometimes you just need to walk the building, check each door is still doing its job, and record anything that needs fixing. That's what the new short-form fire door risk assessment is for. You'll find it in HelloReport as Fire Door Risk Assessment – Short Form.

It's available now to every HelloReport team, alongside your other safety and compliance reports.

Built for regular inspections

Our full Fire Door Risk Assessment goes deep. It asks around 30 questions per door, from fire resistance and door measurements to hinge counts and gap tolerances, and gives each door a risk rating. That's the right tool for a formal assessment, but it's more than you need for a routine check.

The short form keeps the essentials. For each door you record its floor, a reference and the door type, then work through ten checks:

  • Door, frame and securing wall
  • Letterbox
  • Glazing
  • Hinges, locks and other ironmongery
  • Door gaps
  • Strips and seals (if present)
  • Self-closer
  • Alterations
  • Doors wedged open
  • Any other damage

Each check is Satisfactory, Defect or, where it applies, N/A, with space for comments. A door with nothing wrong is a quick run of taps, so you can get round a whole building far more quickly than with the full assessment.

When something needs fixing

Mark a check as a defect and the short form asks for what you'd need to act on it:

  • the issue you found
  • a photo of the defect
  • the action required
  • a timescale: immediately, within 7 days, within 1 month or within 3 months
  • and, optionally, the person responsible

A report that's easy to act on

The short form has its own PDF layout, set out in landscape so the checklist fits across the page:

  • Checklist: one row per door, showing all ten checks at a glance.
  • Action plan: on its own page, listing every defect sorted by timescale, so the most urgent work comes first.
  • Photos: a numbered photo grid, each photo captioned with its door, location and check, and cross-referenced from the action plan.
  • Sign-off to finish.

Built because you asked

The short form started with a request from two of our customers, who wanted a quicker fire door check that matched the way they already inspect. We built it around their checklist, and it went from first line of code to available for every team in a little over two weeks.

That's how much of HelloReport gets made: you tell us what would make your inspections easier, and we build it. If there's something you'd like to see, our customer success team is on live chat and always happy to hear it.

Getting started

You'll find the short form with your other report types when you start a new report. It works on the web and in the HelloReport app on iPhone, iPad and Android, including the redesigned iOS app, so you can complete it on site, door by door. It sits alongside the routine property inspections you already run in HelloReport, and follows the same capture, sign-off and send workflow.

If your team doesn't need it, an account owner can switch it off in your report settings.
